A smooth floor installation starts before the crew arrives. A little planning keeps your business running, avoids surprises on the quote and gets the floor back in service on time. Here is a checklist for facility managers, owners and property managers.
2 to 4 weeks before
Confirm the scope in writing: areas, system, colours, cove base, line striping and the schedule.
Pick the install window: weekends, overnight by arrangement, a planned shutdown, or phased sections so you can keep operating.
Tell your team and tenants: which areas will be closed, for how long, and alternate routes.
Ask about moisture testing: especially for slabs on grade, older buildings or new concrete.
Get the paperwork: request the certificate of insurance and WSIB clearance if your landlord or GC needs them.
The week before
Clear the floor: move racking, inventory, furniture and equipment, or agree on what the crew will move.
Plan access: loading door, parking for the crew trailer, elevator bookings and building access times.
Power and water: grinders and vacuums need power. Confirm outlets or whether a generator is needed.
Ventilation and HVAC: some systems have an odour during application. Plan ventilation and let neighbouring units know.
Protect sensitive areas: electronics, food and stock near the work zone.
During the install
Keep people and forklifts out of marked work zones.
Keep the temperature steady. Most coatings need the slab and air within a set range to cure properly.
Name one contact on site who can make quick decisions.
After the install
Follow cure times: foot traffic, light traffic and full forklift traffic each have their own wait times.
Do the walkthrough: check the floor with the crew lead before sign-off.
Keep the care sheet: the right cleaning routine protects the floor and your warranty.
Add walk-off mats at entrances, especially before winter.
