Surface preparation
Concrete Grinding & Floor Preparation in Toronto
Most coating failures start with the prep, not the product. Hardbond diamond-grinds or shot-blasts every slab to the profile the coating manufacturer specifies, removes old coatings and adhesives, repairs cracks and joints, and tests moisture before anything goes down.
Prep at a glance
The right profile for the right system
Coating makers specify a concrete surface profile (CSP) for each product. We match it, then prove the slab is ready before anything goes down.
Light profile
Fine diamond grinding for thin coatings, sealers and polished concrete.
Medium to heavy profile
Coarse grinding or shot blasting for high-build epoxy and urethane cement.
Repairs before coating
Cracks, spalls and joints repaired so they do not show through. See concrete repair and joint filling.
Moisture checked
Slab moisture tested on every job, with moisture mitigation where readings call for it.
Why prep matters
A coating is only as strong as its bond
Grinding opens the concrete surface so resin can grip it. Skip it, and the floor peels within months under forklift traffic and hot tires.
Diamond grinding
Planetary grinders with dust extraction create a clean, even profile and take down high spots and old residue.
Shot blasting
For large warehouse slabs: fast, low-dust profiling that leaves a uniform texture for thicker systems.
Coating & adhesive removal
Old epoxy, paint, mastic and tile adhesive removed down to sound concrete before the new system goes on.
Moisture testing
Slab moisture is tested before installation, and a moisture-mitigating primer is specified where readings call for it.
Dust-controlled
Prep that keeps your building clean
Every grinder runs with an industrial dust extractor, so prep can happen in occupied buildings. Loud or dusty work is scheduled for nights or weekends when you need it. Prep is included in every epoxy, polyurethane and polished concrete project, or can be booked on its own.

-
Yes. We phase large floors in sections and schedule nights and weekends so your team keeps working.
-
Yes. Clean is not the same as profiled. Smooth troweled concrete and old sealers stop resin from bonding, which is why we grind or blast every floor we coat.
