Moisture mitigation
Concrete Moisture Mitigation in Toronto
Moisture vapour rising through a slab is one of the main reasons resin floors and floor coverings blister, peel and debond. Hardbond tests the slab and installs moisture-mitigating epoxy systems so new floors can go down on schedule, even on damp or new concrete.
Signs of a moisture problem
What moisture does to a floor
Most early coating failures on GTA slabs trace back to moisture coming up through the concrete. These are the warning signs we test for.
Blisters & bubbles
Vapour pressure lifts the coating into soft, fluid-filled blisters. See repair & recoating.
White residue
Efflorescence and alkali salts push through joints and cracks and break the bond.
Lifting flooring
Vinyl, tile and glue-down floors curl or let go. We test before any new epoxy goes down.
New & on-grade slabs
Young concrete and slabs with no vapour barrier need a moisture-tolerant primer, often on ground concrete.
How we handle wet slabs
Test first, then stop the vapour
Moisture problems are invisible until the floor fails. Testing tells us what the slab will do; a mitigation system blocks it.
Moisture testing
In-slab relative humidity and surface emission testing before any system is specified.
Mitigating primers
High-performance epoxy membranes that block moisture vapour beneath coatings, tile, vinyl and other floor coverings.
New construction
Install on schedule instead of waiting months for a new slab to dry.
Failed-floor recovery
Blistered coatings removed, the slab prepared and a mitigation system installed under the new floor.
Protect the investment
Cheap insurance for an expensive floor
Moisture mitigation costs a fraction of replacing a failed floor. It is assessed during every site visit and quoted separately when the readings call for it. Read our guide to concrete moisture testing.
